NASCAR OR BUST

I, like many other NASCAR fans, find
myself dreading Sundays.  I look at the clock and continue to pace back and
forth in my living room deciding whether or not to turn on my television set to
yet another disaster.  This particular Sunday, April 22, will be NO
different.  As thousands of fans pour into Dega and watch 500 miles of
NASCAR’S most dangerous and deadly competition – I will find myself anywhere BUT
near my TV set.

After having watched Adam Petty and Kenny
Irwin die, I felt NASCAR owed the families and the millions of NASCAR fans an
answer – an alternative.  But instead of the committee coming together to
help with the dangerous situations – they chose to ignore.  The answer was
"that’s just racing."

On Feb. 18, 2001 – I lost my world!
I lost the reason I became a NASCAR fan.  I, like the millions of other
Earnhardt fans, still sit in shock!  We will never see our famous black 3
on the track, no more rubbing, and no more father-son battles.  But yet we
sit and wait to see what Mike Helton and NASCAR decides to do.

We have no more answers today than we did
then.  But yet NASCAR continues to make millions at the expense of the
driver’s lives.  "KEEP RACING."  Full face helmets, Hans
device, and soft walls stills remain a dream.

Dale Earnhardt hated the restrictor plates
and yet it cost him his life.  From all I have heard lately, I stand up and
applaud any driver who does NOT show for Dega.  I think it is time the
drivers and the car owners be heard.

I will NOT sit and watch another NASCAR
driver lose their life at NASCAR’S expense.  I have lost my need for speed
for there will never be another driver that had the entire world on the edge of
their seats.
