POINTS SYSTEM SHOULD BE CHANGED

I disagree with Mr. Harness on the NASCAR point system. I dislike
the NASCAR  point system. It’s possible for a driver to never win a race but win the
championship. I know, it’s consistency. No other sport decides it’s champion this
way. Not baseball, football, basketball, or even boxing. They would  never put a non
winning person/team in front of the most winning one. A win  is a win and a loss is a
loss. The margin of the win or loss means nothing in  the standings.

Also the winner doesn’t really get rewarded enough. First place is
only worth  5 more points than second. If a second place driver happened to lead the
most  laps that race, well, that’s as good as a win.

If they are going to put a value on leading a lap or leading the
most laps  then why doesn’t winning the pole mean anything?

Also on his point that, winning the most races wins the
championship, is like  leading the most laps wins the race, well I think, not leading
the most laps  but winning the race is like the team that has been behind the whole
game  coming back to win.

Would people stop caring if the championship was decided before the
season  was over? Maybe. That’s still a possibility with the present point system. Is
racing and NASCAR solely fan driven? I understand they need fans to make  money. And
the fans spend a lot of money. On tickets to see the race, on the  sponsor products
and on their favorite driver souvenirs. But which came first  the sport or the fan?

I just think some changes should be made. NASCAR is like horse
shoes, where  almost counts.
