Pre Watkins Glen RacinDeals
TONY’S TIGERS: So, Tony Stewart needs hired
"bodyguards" now? Bodyguards who apparently have taken over the
responsibility of assaulting reporters in Tony’s place.
Even people who knew Stewart when he was growing up are
getting tired of his childish behavior.
Ah well, at least I don’t have to support Home Depot.
LEAD CHANGES: I think there were 18 official lead
changes at Indy. In reality, there were only 4 true passes for the lead. Every
other "lead change" occurred during cautions or green flag pitting…
or when Bobby Labonte ran out of gas.
I don’t know what it is, but I know it’s not racing.
THE REPORT: Seems like everyone but the folks who
really matter knows what’s going to be in the Earnhardt accident report. The
Florida paper (that’s been more part of the story than "objective"
journal) seems to think they have a scoop and have released what they say is in
the report.
Folks, all they’re interested in doing is selling
newspapers. They don’t give a flip about why or how Dale Earnhardt died. If you
go to their web site, or buy there paper, you’re supporting them in their
anti-racing coverage.
MOST POPULAR DRIVER: I see where Bill Elliott has
removed his name from the ballot in voting for the Most Popular Driver Award, in
favor of fans voting for Dale Earnhardt.
To me, this proves just how much of a farce this
"award" really is. Elliott’s fan club has basically stuffed the ballot
box for the last decade, assuring him of the award. Now Elliott has in effect
told his fans to vote for Dale Earnhardt.
OFF WEEK: The Winston Cup cars are off this
weekend. But the drivers are in Watkins Glen, running cars that are built for
road courses and sit collecting dust the rest of the year.
No, I realize that this is a Winston Cup race, but if the
racing on ovals the last few races has been bad, you can expect it to be even
worse on the road course. NASCAR could give Texas its second race and a new
track a first race by getting rid of the road courses on the schedule.
RACE IN RACING: I’m not sure what’s worse:
denying a person a chance at racing because they’re black, or denying them a
chance at racing because they’re not.
