Grubb Out, Purvis In
Kevin Grubb has been replaced at Brewco
Motorsports by longtime Busch Series veteran, Jeff Purvis. Purvis, who was
released earlier in the 2001 season by Joe Gibbs Racing, will make his first
appearance in the 37 car at Daytona in February.
Kevin Grubb, who had been with Brewco the
past two years, improved upon his 2000 stats this season, with three top-5’s and
7 Top 10’s. Last year Grubb had two top-5 and six top-10 finishes. Falling one
spot in points from 2000, Grubb closed out the 2001 season in the 14th spot.
The team which Grubb is departing, Brewco
Motorsports, has failed to find victory lane since 1999 when Casey Atwood was
behind the wheel of the No. 27, which is now driven by Jamie McMurray. Brewco
has also been minus a pole for over a year.
Earlier this season while driving for
Richard Childress, Jeff Purvis won at Pikes Peak in the No.21 car. Purvis has
three total Busch Series wins to date.
Looking to find their way back to victory,
Brewco Motosrports has grabbed a driver with the capability of getting there.
The question which remains for the other half of the deal, is what are Kevin
Grubb’s plans?
Speculation the last few months has had
his name in the hat for the No.7 Ultra Motorsports ride. Recent talks have Casey
Atwood moving to the 7 with technical assistance under Ray Evernham. Bobby
Hamilton Jr. is reportedly leaving the 26 Dr. Pepper ride, leaving the door open
for Grubb to step in.
Grubb has yet to make an announcement as
to where he’ll be in 2002. If he remains in the Busch Series, his plans will be
known by January 18th, which is the set date for the 2002 BGN Preview.
