Want to Work in NASCAR? Here’s How.
After scanning yet another pointless
website which claims the secrets of "How To Get a Job in NASCAR", I
decided I was through with reading their version of "helpful hints".
Most of the sites contain the same thing; how to prepare your resume, shop
addresses and jobs available.
I’m sure those are helpful hints, but
don’t expect your phone to ring off of the hook just because you followed their
advice.
To get a job in NASCAR you need skills.
I’m not talking about the skill to build a chassis, or the ability to complete a
14-second pit stop. I’m referring to the simple skills of having patience and
determination. You can’t expect to walk into a shop, turn in your resume and get
a job right away, very few will be so lucky. If a top team turns you down, do
not get discouraged. Be prepared for rejection. NASCAR is a sport many people
are trying to get involved with.
Also, you should never stop learning. If
your attempt to get a job in NASCAR falls short, figure out what it is you are
lacking. Work at a local track, gain experience. Still not enough? Go back to
school. Many colleges now offer programs specifically for NASCAR and also have
placement opportunities or internships.
No matter where the advice is from, the
Internet, a book, or a mail order catalogue, the best advice anyone can give, is
to use what you already know. You know you want to work in the sport, so, make
it happen. Although perseverance may not come right away, stay determined and
keep working at it. Maybe someday you’ll be giving out your own "helpful
hints" on how to get a job in NASCAR.
