McMurray Proving His Talent

Second-year Busch Series driver Jamie McMurray is grabbing attention after
only two of the series’ 34 races. After finishing 11th in the season opener at
Daytona, McMurray followed that up with a 15th place run at Rockingham.

During his run at Daytona, McMurray started the race 21st and ran in the top
10 most of the day until lap 101, when he, Greg Biffle, Randy Lajoie and David
Green all tangled, causing right side damage to the car. After making a pit stop
for repairs, he restarted the race in 19th and worked his way to a near top 10
finish.

This past weekend at The Rock, the four-time kart champion McMurray once
again started the race in the 21st starting spot and ended the race 15th. It
wasn’t the 15th place finish that left everyone saying "wow," it was
his performance prior to the checkered.

After starting the 1-866RBCTERM.com 200 McMurray opted to pit early under
caution while the majority of the field stayed out. During an exchange of pit
stops the driver of the Williams Travel Centers Chevy found himself leading from
laps 91 to 95, picking up five bonus points. With the help of those extra bonus
points and his back to back top 15’s, McMurray now sits ninth in Busch Series
points.

It be may be early in the season, but Jamie McMurray is one to watch
throughout 2002. In his rookie year in ’01, he grabbed three top-10s and
finished 16th in points. Prior to last year, he had only run a few races in
Busch, while spending most of the 2000 season in the Craftsman Truck Series. He
finished that year out 22nd in CTS points and had two poles, one of which came
in just his first appearance with TKO Motorsports at Michigan International
Speedway. He ended out the 2000 season with one top five finish and four top
tens.

As the 2002 Busch Series season progresses, be sure to watch Jamie McMurray
as he proves his talent in just his second full season of BGN racing.
